This Month's Featured Campground
Mt. Hood Village RV Resort, Welches, Oregon
In October, when frost is on the pumpkin, most of us think of heading to the nearby mountains to observe
the wonderful mix of colors – reds, bright oranges and colors of yellow.
In the southeast, it's mountains of Eastern North Carolina and Tennessee. The northeast has upstate New York and the New England states, Pennsylvania, and the Poconos. All are famous for their annual leaf color.
Out west, those in California have their own favorites like Julian, Big Bear, or even Sequoia for their annual color fix. While in Oregon and Washington, they have the Cascade. The common denominator with all the places mentioned is that the colors are wonderful and they are all close to home.
A new option out west, as with many other states, is the wine country. The Bay area has Napa Valley, Oregon has the Willamette Valley, and Washington has the Columbia River basin. They're all rich in vineyards. The wine country reward is a trifecta: First, most wine growing areas are also in great fall harvest country. Second, getting there usually takes you through fantastic colors. And third, one can hardly go wrong with a great glass of wine at the end of the day.
Enjoy America! is all about a great place to stay along the way, and a great example of that is Mt. Hood Village on Hwy 26 about 40 miles east of Portland and on the south side of Mt. Hood. This is a great spot to spend the night or the week. From this location, it's easy to head north, visit Hood River, cross the Columbia and finish the trip in wine country of Washington. Talk about color – the scenery of the Columbia Gorge is spectacular!
Valid Sunday through Thursday.
